American craftsman 2000 series windows

I am going to put new windows in my house again it will not be this trash. I bought 16 windows. My house is freezing in the winter because the windows are extremely drafty. I have a film in between the triple pane glass of 11 out of the 16 windows that I bought.

They replaced the sashes free of charge, but after I put 6 new sashes in, I saw daylight on the sides of the window. So now I have them taped up with weather striping.

Some of them whistle terribly on windy days. I called the company and they said that there was nothing that they could do.

I am sick over this. If I had the money to replace them with another brand, I would do it in a heartbeat. Don't buy them. You will be sorry! Extremely drafty windows. They are as drafty or worse than the ancient originals one I removed.

The side channels are very poorly designed. Its like a wind tunnel through there. Right now the windchill here is 14 degrees and my house is freezing. I'm trying to seal them as best I could. Good thing I only purchased 5 of them. I own two apt. I purchased 12 American Craftsman double hung windows 2 years ago and have had issues from the start. They leak, are poorly constructed and there customer service is horrible.

I am going to go one more winter with plastic in the windows and replace them in the spring. It appears that others have had problems with their windows but I've had 2 American Craftsman slider windows with low E and argon for well over 6 years and have not had any problems with them. I special ordered them from home depot and installed them per the instructions. Search Advanced search…. Everywhere Threads This forum This thread. Search Advanced….

Previous Next. Jul 2, 5, 1, Back in '03 or '04 we installed 15 new windows in our house. We decided to go with American Craftsman series windows because of cost. They were purchased through Home Depot. Over the years three top sashes and one bottom sash had the seals break and the glass fogged.

Today I called the number and filed a claim under their lifetime guarantee. I was pleasantly surprised when all the woman asked for was the serial number and the dimensions of the sashes needing replaced.

All in all a nice experience considering how long it has been. I received an email about 5 minutes after I hung up the phone with a pdf containing the dimensions and parts that are being replaced under warranty. All of the replacements seem to be correct but of course I won't know until they arrive.

The American Craftsman 50 window is available as a double hung, single hung, glider, awning, hopper, or as a casement. In terms of the American Craftsman windows warranty, the comes with the limited lifetime warranty and that covers the vinyl, hardware and insulated glass units from any manufacturing defects for the life of the homeowner. There are a number of limitations and exclusions so consumer should always read the fine print in order to find out what is not covered in the warranty provisions.

I did not do my homework on these and have read all of the bad reviews. How do I tell which model that was installed in my house? Call up Lowes and ask if they carry them. If so, they will know the answer. American Craftsman only has two models, the 50 and the I have a couple of quotes so far. Both windows are single hung.

My guy tells me to go with the PGT, but I thought I would throw it out to you guys to see what you thought. Plus it's way less expensive. Go with the PGT and let me know how the project goes! Unlike the 50 series, the American Craftsman 70 window comes in a brick mould frame, and has upgraded weatherstripping, indicator lock, and locking insect screen.

As well, the 70 comes in a tilt in on their hung windows, which allows for easier cleaning. The American Craftsman 70 window is available as a double hung, single hung, picture, awning, casement, and in several specialty options. In terms of warranty, the 70 comes with the same limited lifetime warranty that covers the vinyl, hardware and insulated glass units from any manufacturing defects for the life of the homeowner. There same limitations and exclusions apply as with the 50 series.

I would like a good quality replacement window but so many choices, please help. I need to order the windows asap. Below are the quotes I received.

The Reliabilt by Atrium is a bit better, but basically also a poorly made window. Jeld Wen makes an okay window, but nothing great. I think the Slocomb Series is the best window of the bunch. I would say that's a nice mid range vinyl window. Have you checked to see if Sunrise Windows has a dealer in your area? Would the Reliabilt series be closer option to the Slocomb ?

I have been reading about getting the foam option within the frames when available as a good insulator. I don't know a ton about Slocomb's windows to be honest, but that is my understanding. The foam insulation upgrade is well worth the money as far as I'm concerned.

Simonton is a good manufacturer and I would recommend their top end Reflections model or their Impressions model. They are better than any you have bids for so far. Sunrise is a step above Simonton and one of the best in the business. Dane - Site Editor - from American Craftsman 70 vs ProVia Endure I'm getting new windows and may go new construction -- but haven't completely decided on this. The two quotes were not far off one another.

Any advise?
